Peanut

HR Peanut Butter Tyme RA CGC

Peanut is the heart of our breeding program and a beautiful, athletic, highly biddable female with the drive and temperament we value in a field-bred Golden Retriever. She has earned her HRC Started and Seasoned titles, along with AKC Rally titles and Canine Good Citizen (CGC), and continues to train toward advanced retrieving work.

In the field, Peanut is a driven, intelligent retriever with a natural off-switch. She is equally happy working birds, training, or settling quietly at home with the family. Her trainability, steady temperament, and willingness to work have made her an exceptional hunting companion and family dog.

As a mother, Peanut has consistently passed along the qualities we hoped to preserve: drive, intelligence, biddability, athleticism, beautiful dark color, and wonderful temperaments. Her puppies have reinforced exactly why she is such an important part of Golden Gun Dogs.

River Retrieve 2025

Peanut, our amazing Field Golden Retriever, showcases her skill and determination on this impressive mid-season retrieve on the Colorado River! She navigated a challenging 120-yard retrieve through thick, hidden mud just beneath the water’s surface. When the mallard drake started kicking mid-retrieve, she made a quick re-grab and executed a perfect recovery. All of this was done from a blind setup on shore—truly a testament to her training and grit!

Why Run Hunt Trials?

Running hunt trials offers several benefits beyond traditional hunting, making it a valuable experience for both handlers and their dogs:

  1. Skill Development: Hunt trials simulate real hunting scenarios, helping dogs refine their skills in a controlled, competitive environment. This sharpens their abilities in areas like marking, retrieving, and handling.
  2. Consistency: Trials demand precision and consistency in performance, helping handlers train their dogs to respond predictably in any situation, which translates to more reliable behavior in the field.
  3. Titled Recognition: Achieving titles in hunt trials (like Started, Seasoned, and Finished) provides formal recognition of a dog’s abilities. This not only demonstrates the dog's competence but also enhances its breeding value, proving it meets high performance standards.
  4. Challenge & Community: Hunt trials introduce varying levels of difficulty, keeping both the dog and handler challenged and engaged. They also offer the opportunity to connect with a community of like-minded dog owners who share a passion for training and the outdoors.
  5. Field Experience: For those with limited hunting opportunities, trials provide a way for the dog to gain valuable field experience outside the regular hunting season, keeping them sharp year-round.

Overall, running hunt trials hones a dog's skills, builds their reputation, and offers challenges that improve both dog and handler, leading to better performance during actual hunts.

Rally Obedience

Overview

AKC Rally Obedience is a dog sport that combines elements of obedience and agility, designed to test a dog’s skills and the handler’s ability to communicate with the dog through a series of stations. Each station has a sign describing a specific obedience task, such as sit, down, heel, or perform a combination of movements. The goal is for the dog and handler to complete the course in sync, following the signs and maintaining precision, teamwork, and control.

Levels

There are several levels in AKC Rally, including Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Excellent, and Master. At the novice level, exercises are performed on-leash, and the signs involve basic obedience commands. As the dog progresses, more advanced levels require off-leash work and more challenging exercises, such as jumping or advanced maneuvers.

Competition

To compete in Rally Obedience, a dog needs to demonstrate good basic obedience, responsiveness to commands, and a close working relationship with its handler. Rally is open to all breeds, and it emphasizes teamwork, making it a great way to build a bond with a dog while competing in a fun, structured environment.

Building on her Novice success, in 2024, Peanut transitioned to more advanced levels. She completed all qualifying rounds for her Rally Advanced (RA) title, where she worked off-leash and continued to display the precision that had earned her high scores in the past. Peanut has now started working toward her Rally Excellent (RE) title, which involves even more challenging tasks and exercises, further showcasing her versatility and determination in the sport.

Peanut’s achievements highlight her natural talent and the time and effort invested in her training, making her accomplishments even more meaningful.
